It’s time to share how the University of California (UC) is 'taking care of business' with small, local, and disadvantaged businesses by putting them first in their procurement process.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the urgency of discovering ways for economic and social recovery became more visible. The University of California, an institution that spends close to $10 billion annually, launched a program to increase buying from certified Small Businesses (SB) and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE).
The program, especially designed for small businesses, proposes a streamlined procurement process, with simple requests and a few steps, without wasting time on RFPs, requiring only a quote (no bids) from vendors.
To support the program, the University set aside $10,000 – $250,000 contracts for small businesses, seeking to allocate almost 25% of their annual spending to small and diverse businesses.
Watch this video that outlines important details of the program and how small businesses can do business with the University of California.
